Mr. Singleton of WFUV New York thinks that high-definition radio and the HD radio portable systems have the potential to be what FM broadcasting was in the 1960s. He said "It's still an early technology, but I have a feeling it” will take off.
Singleton should defiantly know: WFUV has received a $500,000 grant to develop a channel whose programming is centered around local acts and independent acts. The station, which will launch in fall 2008, is to be broadcast online, over the airwaves with HD Radio, and on mobile streams. There is a growing interest in HD radio broadcasting in the independent music community.
